Mitek Systems announced that it has received a contract to provide a new facsimile product to the Army that may be worth up to $13 million to the company over five years. Mitek makes a line of products, mainly for government customers, designed for highly secure communications.

The new product, which was formally certified by the federal government Tuesday, is the 850T Tempest facsimile telecommunications unit, which Mitek has developed in cooperation with Ricoh Corp. Mitek said Ricoh was unable to compete directly on the Army’s bid and so teamed up with Mitek.

Mitek said the contract calls for it and Ricoh to deliver up to 300 units a year to the 7th Signal Command headquarters. Shipments are to begin within 30 days.
