More than $40,000 in damage was caused by a fire in a police parking lot.

A recreational vehicle seized in a San Diego narcotics investigation was set on fire about 9:30 p.m. Monday, according to police spokesman Dave Cohen.

The vehicle was parked in the lot of the Police Department’s Western Division substation on Gaines Street when “somebody sneaked in and torched the vehicle with flammable liquid,” Fire Department spokesman Larry Stewart said.

A police command van next to the recreational vehicle received about $20,000 damage, and another $20,000 damage was reported to the RV, according to Larry Carlson, captain of the Metro Arson Strike Team, which is investigating the fire.
