Controversy Over Quayle’s Nomination
Quayle’s self-serving and opportunistic efforts to minimize his military obligation insulted the courageous legacy of those thousands of principled draft resisters who jeopardized their citizenship and personal freedom, their future careers, and their families’ names by forthrightly refusing participation in an immoral and illegal war. What is more, given that Republican candidate’s ongoing sordid call to arms for a new generation, coupled with his despicable attempts at rationalizing his own record, his nomination amounts to a disgrace to the memory of those who could not or would not hide behind a family name.
