Local News in Brief : Cypress : City Gets $180,000 in Federal Grants
Federal block grants totaling $180,000 have been approved by the county Board of Supervisors for projects around the city.
The largest grant, $80,000, was allocated for home improvements by low- and moderate-income residents in the form of low-interest loans, rebates and grants. Households with four members will qualify for the aid if the residents earn less than $32,000 a year and meet other qualifications. A grant of $60,000 was authorized to help the expansion and renovation of the Cypress Senior Citizens Center at 9031 Grindlay St., which serves the elderly with low-to-moderate incomes. The supervisors also approved a $40,000 grant to continue street improvements on Danny Avenue between Walker Street and Cypress Avenue.
