Local News in Brief : Valley Transit Funding Bill Sent to Assembly
Abill to earmark as much as $20 million a year for San Fernando Valley transit projects was approved Friday by the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
The committee voted 13 to 2 to send the measure, carried by state Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Van Nuys), to the Assembly floor.
Robbins has acknowledged that he faces an uphill fight to win passage of the bill before the legislative session ends Wednesday.
His bill would require the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission to set aside, for transit projects in the Valley, 15% of the funds it plans to spend every year. That amount has been estimated at between $17 million and $20 million a year.
