Man Dies as Pickup Hits His Parked Car
A man was killed early Saturday when a pickup truck smashed into his car as it was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 805 in San Diego, authorities said.
The identity of the victim was not immediately available.
The driver of the pickup, Armistead Smith, 18, of Del Mar, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Smith was driving north on I-805 at 3:25 a.m., just north of Governor Drive, when his truck veered onto the right shoulder and smashed into the parked car, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
