A 17-year-old boy was killed early Sunday when his car caught fire after he lost control of it and crashed into a eucalyptus tree, authorities said.

Anaheim police said the victim had not yet been identified by coroner’s officials.

Anaheim Police Lt. Jack Parra said the teen-ager, who was driving a 1986 Toyota MR2, was westbound on Santa Ana Canyon Road at a high rate of speed about 1:40 a.m. Sunday when, “for unknown reasons,” he lost control.

When Anaheim police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the accident scene, east of Imperial Highway, they found the car engulfed in flames, Parra said. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
