Oil Found Under Suburban Paris
The state-run Elf Aquitaine oil company said today it has discovered oil deposits of undetermined magnitude under suburban Paris after a three-week exploratory drilling program.
Engineers struck oil beneath the southern suburb of Alfortville after running a drill diagonally from an industrial property the other side of the Seine River in nearby Ivry, Elf Aquitaine said. It was unknown whether the oil deposits were sufficient to justify eventual full-scale production drilling, and the company said it will continue exploratory work.
