Sam Shepard’s thoughts on film directing (the actor-playwright’s maiden directorial effort, “Far North,” is scheduled for release by Alive Films Nov. 11): “Film making (is something) I can get passionate about because it’s a natural extension of writing. It’s everything you wish writing could be: you can visualize things, and there they are; you can extend shots, change the colors, put wind in when the wind isn’t there.”
