Two Los Angeles police officers were beaten up by a group of six men in the Koreatown area early this morning, Los Angeles police said.

Five of the men were arrested but the sixth was still at large. The two officers--one man and one woman--suffered scrapes and scratches in the melee and were treated at a hospital. One of the suspects suffered similar, minor injuries and received medical aid, a police spokesman said.

According to Sgt. Ray Heslop of the Rampart Division, the incident began about 1 a.m. when one of the officers, whose names were not released, tried to cite one of the group for having an open alcohol container and drinking. The officers had been sent to 9th Street and Vermont Avenue after neighbors complained about the men. The attack began when one of the officers tried to get one of the men to sign a citation. The men were arrested after more police arrived to help.
