Earl F. Cheit has been appointed chairman of Shaklee Corp., replacing John C. Lorini, who has retired. Cheit, 62, is a professor of business administration and former dean of the school of business at the University of California at Berkeley, where he has been on the faculty since 1957. Cheit has also been a Shaklee director since 1976. At Shaklee, the post of chairman is held by a non-employee. Shaklee, headquartered in San Francisco, markets nutritional, household and personal-care products directly to consumers.
