La Canada Schools Get 5.8% Budget Increase
The La Canada school board Tuesday approved a $13.8-million budget for 1988-89, an increase of 5.8% over last year.
The increase reflects a 10.7% raise for members of the La Canada Teacher’s Assn. and higher operating expenses resulting from the opening of an elementary school, a district spokeswoman said.
Salaries and benefits account for 80.3% of the district’s projected expenditures for the year; 4.2% is earmarked for books and supplies; 14.3% is allocated for services and operating expenses; 1.1% is set aside for new equipment or replacing old equipment, and 0.1% is earmarked for other expenses.
State funds account for 90.9% of the income, local revenue 7.9% and federal funds, 1.2%.
