More than 150 doodles by such doodlers as John Lithgow, Carol Burnett, Mickey Rooney and NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, are set to be auctioned off at the Back Alley Theater this Saturday, and the event is expected to raise about $30,000 for the for the Van Nuys theater. Producing directors for the theater, Allan Miller and his wife, Laura Zucker, started the annual event five years ago after seeing a similar doodle-off in San Francisco. “The first year we just asked people we knew from the theater. It was the third year that we started to ask people we didn’t know, and by that time it was so popular, that people did it,” says Zucker. “This year 50% of the doodles are from people we didn’t know, but asked. And they did.” More than 250 people are expected to attend the auction at a private home in Encino.
