Local News in Brief : Costa Mesa : Two Banks Robbed Within 30 Minutes

Two Costa Mesa banks were robbed within 30 minutes of each other Thursday, and the bandits escaped with a total of $2,400. No arrests were made.

A man described as in his 20s, white, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds walked into the First Interstate Bank at 3029 Harbor Blvd. at 10:05 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. He put the cash in a white plastic bag and left through a rear exit, according to police. No weapon was seen. Police said $700 was taken in the holdup.

Thirty minutes later, Wells Fargo Bank tellers reported that a man in his 30s, white and wearing a double-breasted blue suit entered the bank and handed a note to a teller saying that he had a gun and ordering her to put money in a bag. The bandit was last seen walking from the bank at 3400 Bristol St. Police said the robber got away with $1,700.

No injuries were reported. Police officers said they did not believe the same man held up both banks.
