CAMPAIGN ’88 : Peace and Freedom Member Makes Ballot
Lenora Fulani, a member of the Peace and Freedom Party, has submitted enough valid voter signatures to get her name on California’s Nov. 8 presidential ballot, according to the secretary of state’s office.
But Fulani will be listed as an independent candidate because of a dispute over the Peace and Freedom Party’s nominating convention.
Two different factions of the party held conventions and Secretary of State March Fong Eu ruled that the party had to hold a unified meeting by Sept. 5 if it wanted its candidate listed on the ballot.
The party failed to do that, but Fulani then gathered 125,500 signatures on petitions around the state, needing 65,000 valid ones to qualify for the ballot.
The Peace and Freedom Party is suing the secretary of state’s office over the ruling about the conventions.
