About 150,000 people attended the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach in July and August, according to Sally Reeve, spokeswoman for the pageant. Another 50,000 to 75,000 people attended the Festival of Arts, Reeve said. Official totals for paid attendance at both events are expected next month from the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse. Reeve said attendance at the pageant this year was roughly equal to that of 1987 and 1986. Recent residential growth in the southern part of the county has contributed to the existing problem of limited access to Laguna Beach, she said, holding attendance at the 150,000 level. “Traffic is hurting us badly,” Reeve said.
