The Army said it and Italian gun maker Beretta have reached an agreement to suspend deliveries of the military’s new 9-millimeter pistol for the next three months to deal with a problem of unexpected cracking in the gun’s slide mechanism. Beretta USA, which operates a manufacturing plant in Accokeek, Md., beat out seven competitors in 1985 for the right to provide 9-millimeter guns to replace the military’s venerable Colt .45-caliber automatic.
