Local News in Brief : Parking Panel Asked to Study Residential Woes
Glendale officials directed parking commissioners this week to expand their scope and begin addressing parking problems in the city’s residential neighborhoods.
“An awful lot of thought has been given to downtown parking,” Glendale City Manager David Ramsay told the volunteer commissioners Tuesday. “I don’t think a lot of thought has been given to residential parking, which is becoming more and more of an aggravation.”
Four of the five appointed commissioners met for 1 1/2 hours in a joint session with city officials, including four City Council members.
Mayor Carl W. Raggio and Parking Commissioner Zaven Hanessian were absent from the meeting.
Councilman John F. Day suggested that the commissioners, who serve three-year terms, should get out in the community and “brainstorm” to come up with new ideas to battle worsening parking problems.
Councilman Jerold F. Milner also asked the commissioners to “look to the future,” both in downtown and residential neighborhoods.
“Help us devise policy that will keep problems from becoming overwhelming,” he said.
