Share

The Council of Long Beach Organizations has announced the election of Marilyn Russel Bittle as its new chairwoman for 1988-89.

Bittle is the executive director of the Teachers Assn. of Long Beach, the union representing teachers in the Long Beach Unified School District. She replaces Robert Kramme, past president of Lambda Democratic Club, a political organization composed of mostly homosexual members.

The council has 15 affiliates, which are mostly liberal organizations and a couple of unions. Their members include the City Employees Assn., the National Organization for Women and the Long Beach Area Citizens Involved activist group.

Formed in 1984, the council considers the adoption of Proposition T, which established district elections for the school board, its major accomplishment.
