A man who defrauded the Los Angeles County welfare system out of more than $63,000 by using birth certificates and Social Security cards of dead people to create fictitious families was sentenced Wednesday to four years in state prison.

Superior Court Judge Candace Cooper imposed the sentence on Richard O’Neal Jones, 41, who with his girlfriend, Barbara Ann Harris, 34, of Los Angeles, pleaded guilty July 20 to seven counts of conspiracy, welfare fraud and perjury. Jones was sentenced by Harris last week to one year in County Jail.
