Reagan Picks Latino Judge

President Reagan announced today that he is nominating Ferdinand F. Fernandez to be a federal appellate judge on the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California.

Reagan made the announcement to representatives of Latino news media gathered in an auditorium of the Old Executive Office Building. Fernandez, 51, if confirmed by the Senate, would succeed Warren J. Ferguson. Since 1985, Fernandez has served as a federal district judge for the Central District of California. Before that, he was a Superior Court judge in San Bernardino County in 1980-85. He is a graduate of USC and its law school.
