Riley No Recruit

Laker coach Pat Riley tells us he’s been turning down acting offers--including writer-director (and longtime Riley pal) Robert Towne’s “Tequila Sunrise,” playing a cop in a love triangle involving Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer! (Kurt Russell was eventually cast; the pic opens Dec. 9.)

Though other offers have been “standard sports cameos,” Riley said, the “Sunrise” part intrigued him: “Towne said the character reminded him of me. He observed me for a while during the time he was rewriting the script. I’m not an actor, but Towne’s track record and our personal relationship almost convinced me to do it.”

Riley has starred in his own just-released 30-minute motivational video, “Team Work,” but has nixed--for now--a nibble to join the CBS sports staff.
