A tour bus registered in Mexico struck and killed a pedestrian Sunday in Pacoima, Los Angeles police said.

Leopoldo Varrera, 45, of Pacoima, was driving his bus north over a bridge on Bradley Avenue between Del Sur Street and Parkside Drive at about 9:30 a.m. when a pedestrian darted in front of him, Officer Jim Currie said.

Currie said the victim was in his early 30s, but his identity was not known Sunday by police or the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Witnesses said Varrera was not speeding--estimating that he was driving 30 m.p.h. or less in a 35-m.p.h. zone--and Currie said he would not be charged in the death. Varrera’s wife and two children were passengers in the bus. They were not injured.

The tour bus was registered in Mexico, Currie said, but Varrera had recently moved to the San Fernando Valley and was in the process of re-registering his vehicle in California.
