Former Marine Lt. Col. Oliver L. North, indicted for his role in the Iran-Contra affair, is scheduled to appear Sept. 30 at an Anaheim dinner to raise money for his personal defense fund and for state Sen. Ed Royce (R-Fullerton).

Royce said proceeds from the $150-a-person reception and dinner at the Disneyland Hotel will be divided between the Oliver North Defense Trust and the senator’s own campaign committee. The money, said Royce, who is not up for election this year, will be used this fall to help other Southern California Republican candidates.

Royce and North first met in June when both were campaigning for Republican congressional candidate C. Christopher Cox of Newport Beach. Royce is campaign chairman for Cox, who won the GOP primary in the 40th Congressional District in June and is opposed in the Nov. 8 election by Democrat Lida Lenney, a member of the Laguna Beach City Council.

North visited Southern California in June to raise money for Cox and another Republican congressional challenger, Dana Rohrabacher, who eventually won the GOP nomination in the 42nd Congressional District. Both Cox and Rohrabacher knew North while working at the White House--Cox as a former senior associate counsel to President Reagan and Rohrabacher as a speech writer.

The North reception in Anaheim is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with dinner at 8.
