Kenya Fires 33 Officials Over Ties to Poachers

NAIROBI, Kenya —
The Kenyan government said Wednesday it is firing 33 wildlife officials accused of collaborating with poachers.
Independent wildlife experts in Kenya recently voiced concern that poachers, apparently with the connivance of government officials, are stepping up the slaughter of elephants in Kenya’s national parks.
President Daniel Arap Moi last week ordered game wardens to shoot poachers on sight.
