The Joffrey Ballet and Cal State Los Angeles are entering into what is being billed as “a unique partnership.”

The bicoastal ballet company, based in New York and at the Los Angeles Music Center as resident dance company, will eventually have rehearsal and performance space on the campus as well.

Details of the arrangement will be announced at a joint press conference Monday attended by officials of the Joffrey, Cal State L.A. and the Music Center.

Ruth Goldway, spokeswoman for Cal State L.A., said Thursday that the Joffrey will have rehearsal space in a new dance studio currently under construction on the 175-acre campus, and performance space at a new arts complex that will be completed sometime in 1991.

The arts complex will have a 1,200-seat theater where the Joffrey will perform. The ballet company will also continue to perform at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center downtown.

“As far as we know, no other professional dance company in the nation has this kind of permanent ongoing commitment to a university,” Goldway said.
