Local News in Brief : Royalty Takes In Fair as Fun Alternative

Share

A 39-member entourage, including a princess and 10 children of the Brunei royal family, took in the amusement zone at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona on Thursday after they found Six Flags Magic Mountain closed for the day.

Officials of the Valencia fun park reportedly declined the group’s offer to pay all costs if the rides could be opened up for the day so the children could enjoy themselves.

The Bruneians were advised to try the fair, which they did, arriving in two large buses and a limousine.

No one with the group would identify the princess, believed to be either a sister or sister-in-law of the sultan. Security guards working for the visitors shooed off questioners. Although various members of the royal family visit the Los Angeles area frequently, the sultan does not come with them, apparently preferring to remain in his 1,788-room palace on the island of Borneo. He is reputed to be the richest man in the world with $25 billion. He owns the Beverly Hills Hotel, among other things.
