A 26-year-old man was killed when his car collided with a pickup truck whose driver was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

The victim was identified by the coroner’s office as Jesus Perez Mendez of Fallbrook.

The truck driver, Gary Rodger Adams, 19, of Leucadia, who was unharmed in the collision, was booked at the County Jail in Vista on suspicion of felony drunk driving and manslaughter.

The accident occurred at 7:54 p.m. Thursday when Adams, a fireplace installer, crossed over the center line while southbound on Escondido Avenue near South Morningside Drive, police said. The truck first hit the left rear fender of one car, then spun around and collided with Mendez’s car, police said. The driver of the first car was unharmed.
