Paramount Television, the company that produces “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” is broadcasting a two-hour tribute to both the new and original “Star Trek” shows to air on various stations around the country next week (on KCOP-TV, Channel 13 at 5 p.m. Oct. 9). Included in the tribute--hosted by Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, a.k.a. British actor Patrick Stewart--is the broadcast premiere of the first “Star Trek” pilot episode, “The Cage,” starring Jeffrey Hunter as Capt. Christopher Pike. (This first pilot was rejected by NBC in 1964 as being “too cerebral” for TV audiences.) Also included in the tribute are interviews with series creator Gene Roddenberry, series outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage.
