Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : 4 Gang Members Held, Cache Seized in Slaying

Santa Ana police arrested four gang members, three of them juveniles, early Sunday on suspicion of murder in an Aug. 29 slaying of an 18-year-old motorist.

Officers served search warrants and made the arrests at 7 a.m. at three addresses in the 1400 and 1600 blocks of West Highland Street, Sgt. Joe Esther said.

Police also confiscated nine handguns, rifles and shotguns, an undisclosed quantity of phencyclidine (PCP, also known as “angel dust”), marijuana and $2,000 in cash, thought to be proceeds of drug sales.

Three 17-year-old members of the Highland Street gang were booked in Juvenile Hall, he said. Their names were not disclosed.

A fourth suspect, Harvey Romero, 18, was booked on suspicion-of-murder charges at County Jail in the shooting death of Pedro Sanchez, 18, of Santa Ana.

Sanchez and three minors were shot in the 1400 block of Highland Street. The juveniles survived, Sgt. John Dennis said.
