Local News in Brief : 11 Injured as Bus and Truck Collide
The driver of a pickup truck was seriously injured and 10 members of the La Mirada High School girls volleyball team were hurt Tuesday afternoon when the truck collided with a school bus in La Mirada.
The California Highway Patrol said 26 teen-agers were headed for a game at La Habra High School when the pickup truck apparently went through a red light and broadsided their bus at Foster Road and Santa Gertrudes Avenue.
The pickup’s driver, Mona Westrum, 19, of Fullerton, was taken to Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. Five of the team members were taken to La Mirada Community Hospital with what a CHP officer called “minor to moderate” injuries.
