Guy Lafleur, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame earlier this month, signed a 1-year contract with a 1-year option to play for the New York Rangers.

Lafleur, 37, retired in 1984 after 14 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He was voted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility and was inducted Sept. 7.

Ranger General Manager Phil Esposito said that Lafleur has been impressive during exhibition games. “He can help this club,” he added. “If he can score 20 to 25 goals, we’d be pleased and happy.”
