Hawaiian Gardens : New Bingo Parlor to Open
The NuTowne Bingo Parlor, controlled by local developer and physician Irving Moskowitz, is scheduled to open next week at the site of the former Cooper Fellowship Bingo Parlor.
The reopening of the once-popular bingo operation under new ownership is expected to earn about $240,000 a year in city revenue, officials estimated.
Before Copper Fellowship unexpectedly closed in February, the nonprofit operation collected $24 million a year in proceeds. The city, under a local bingo ordinance, was guaranteed 1% of that total.
Moskowitz bought the Cooper Fellowship hall in May for $4 million, according to county records. The Orange County-based Cooper Fellowship sold the Hawaiian Gardens property at Carson Street and Pioneer Boulevard in March for $3 million.
Moskowitz, who owns much of the property along the north side of Carson Street between Pioneer Boulevard and Juan Avenue, has announced plans to build a hotel-retail complex.
