For those who can’t resist “Last Temptation” controversy, look no further than Santa Barbara. The Victoria Street Theater, a small private movie house used on Sundays by the fundamentalist Vineyard Christian Fellowship, began showing Scorsese’s film last week because other movie houses in town won’t show it. Fellowship members have answered by picketing with placards reading “Blasphemy” and “Revenge Is His” in an effort to scare ticket buyers away. But Paul Arganbright, the theater’s managing partner, said he “has a mandate to show alternative films,” especially because the Victoria is the only venue in town not operated by the Metropolitan Theater chain, which decided not to exhibit the film.
