Hey, That’s the Way the Cookie Crumbles

The fact that Gene Mauch is a candidate for any job is a tribute to the pervasiveness of the myth that he is a great (or even good) manager. Since Mauch has never won a league championship, let alone a World Series, and has a lifetime losing record, it is logical to conclude that there is another reason for his unmerited high standing.

The Angels (and many other baseball people) appear to believe that managerial ability is synonymous with the considerable knowledge of the rules that Mauch is said to possess.

I recommend that the Angels limit their managerial search to the roster of American (or National) League umpires rather than making a Mauchery of the selection process by bringing back the Little General one more time.
