CAMPAIGN ’88 : Rep. McCrery Reelected

Associated Press

Rep. Jim McCrery, a Republican, swept to an easy victory in his reelection bid against Gov. Buddy Roemer’s mother in Louisiana’s primary, but another GOP incumbent, Rep. Clyde C. Holloway, was forced into a repeat of his 1986 runoff.

Holloway, who defeated attorney Faye Williams, a Democrat, in a runoff two years ago, will face her again Nov. 8.

McCrery, elected in the spring to fill the remainder of Roemer’s unexpired term in the House, claimed victory over two Democratic opponents, including Adeline Roemer, the governor’s mother, in Saturday’s primary.
