A 26-year-old Mexican woman gave birth to quintuplets, one of whom was born dead. Ana Rosa Ballesteros, of Nogales, Mexico, and her four surviving daughters reportedly were doing well. The babies are in the neonatal intensive care unit at University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson. Hospital spokeswoman Julieta Gonzalez said Ballesteros and her husband, Raul, an accountant, had known she was carrying five babies since her 17th week of pregnancy. The babies ranged in weight from 2 pounds, 1 1/2 ounces, to 2 pounds, 5 1/2 ounces, Gonzalez said. The stillborn baby was a boy. Gonzalez said that she did not believe that Ballesteros, who has no other children, had been taking fertility drugs.
