Local News in Brief : 8-Year Sentence for Rape at UCLA
An equipment service technician was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday for the October, 1987, rape of a UCLA student in a private reading room of the University Research Library on the Westwood campus.
A Santa Monica Superior Court jury convicted Nathan Johnny Brocato, 27, of the San Bernardino County community of Highland after only 45 minutes of deliberation.
Brocato’s 22-year-old victim testified that he grabbed her from behind as she sat at a desk on the library’s third floor about 10 p.m. last Oct. 5. He then covered her mouth with his hand and dragged her into the room where he raped her, she said.
Judge Laurence Rittenbrand’s sentence requires that Brocato serve the entire eight years.
