Share

In an event that has become habitual, nuns in habits and jogging shoes will race around Lynwood Park on Saturday to raise money to fight child abuse and aid poor children and their families who receive medical services at St. Francis Medical Center.

The annual Nun Run and Relays, sponsored by the Children’s Charity League of the Catholic hospital, will start at the park just behind the hospital, 3630 E. Imperial Highway, Lynwood. Team relays will be run along designated city streets. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. Running events will start at 8. The nuns will start running at 10.

Entry fees are required for individuals and corporate participants. Fees for 4-person relays are $200, with individual runners being asked to contribute from $8 to $14. Last year’s event raised nearly $43,000. Organizers hope to raise $50,000 this year. Former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Vince Ferragamo is the honorary chairman.
