Civil rights leader Hosea Williams, lead plaintiff in a suit seeking $1.5 million from two Ku Klux Klan factions, asked a federal judge in Atlanta to dismiss the suit while a jury deliberated the case. U.S. District Judge Charles A. Moye Jr. refused to dismiss the suit but did remove Williams as the lead plaintiff, replacing him with Georgia state Sen. Billy McKinney. The plaintiffs are seeking more than $1.5 million in damages from the Southern White Knights of the KKK and the Invisible Empire Knights of the KKK, their leaders and others for pelting biracial brotherhood marchers in Forsyth County with rocks and bottles.
