CAMPAIGN ’88 : Carter: ‘Worst Ever’

Former President Jimmy Carter says the 1988 presidential race is the nation’s worst ever.
Speaking Wednesday at a news conference in Stockholm, Sweden, where he was visiting, Carter said the Bush-Dukakis struggle had reached “an unprecedented low on personal vituperation, allegations without substantiation and avoidance of the real issues.
“It hasn’t been a high level of enlightened debate at all,” he said. “It’s been just the opposite--the worst campaign ever.”
