The Reagan Administration said it sees no need to change the formula for figuring cost-of-living adjustments for Social Security and other entitlements despite claims that it shortchanges millions of beneficiaries. With figures due out in two weeks on how big an increase the nation’s 38 million Social Security recipients can expect in their checks next year, White House Budget Director James C. Miller III said the currently used Labor Department index for calculating its size is sufficient.
