POP LP CHART : Bon Jovi Takes Top; Olympics LP Rising

Share

It’s quite a feat but no surprise that Bon Jovi’s “New Jersey” catapulted to the top spot on the Billboard magazine pop chart in just two weeks. It would have been surprising if the album had taken any longer to hit No. 1. UB 40’s “Labour of Love” jumped to No. 18 and may crack the Top 10. The album is so hot because it features the No. 1 pop single, “Red Red Wine.” All that exposure that the Olympics album, “One Moment in Time,” received during those marathon Olympics telecasts has paid off. The fast-rising album (No. 35), which includes singles by various artists, is getting a boost from Whitney Houston’s hit single of the title song--No. 18 on the singles chart.

* The speed-metal merchants of Anthrax are zipping up the pop chart with an album some critics contend is their best yet. “State of Euphoria” bounded from No. 68 to No. 36.
