Skull Mailed to Iowa TV Station; FBI Opens Investigation
Someone mailed a human skull to a television station, prompting authorities to open a criminal investigation.
Police said that the skull was found in a box sent to KCRG-TV last week and that the unsuspecting clerk who opened it initially thought it was a cantaloupe.
Officials asked eastern Iowa cemetery operators to look for a disturbed mausoleum or grave vault because medical tests determined that the skull found in the box probably had not been buried underground.
The box also contained a threatening letter to the City Council, prompting the FBI to enter the case.
