A Bureau of Land Management ground search in central Nevada has turned up 180 more slaughtered wild horses to bring the total of mustangs believed killed by rifle fire to 450, BLM officials said today.

“Every time we go out there, we seem to find more,” BLM spokesman Bob Stewart said. “The carnage that occurred out there was terrible, almost unbelievable.” Stewart said he will not be surprised if more carcasses are found before the investigation is complete. He refused to say whether the BLM has any suspects or strong leads in the case, which began unfolding last month.
