International Paper Co.’s third-quarter net income soared 97% from the year-ago period to $201 million. Sales totaled $2.4 billion, a gain of 20%. The Purchase, N.Y., firm, one of the world’s largest paper companies, said the results reflect strong results in its packaging and white paper businesses.
