Compton : Bourbon Street Study OKd

Share

Last week Compton officials unveiled architectural plans for a shopping and entertainment complex along the Artesia Freeway. This week they hired a Los Angeles marketing firm to tell them whether they should pursue the project, which would feature a New Orleans, French Quarter-like atmosphere.

On a 3-1 vote Tuesday, the City Council agreed to pay Harrison Price Co. up to $25,000 for a feasibility study on Bourbon Street, the name given to the proposed 579,000-square-foot complex that would be built next to the new Compton-Lazben Hotel. The complex and the hotel, which is to open in December, are redevelopment projects.

Councilman Maxcy D. Filer voted against hiring the firm. Mayor Walter R. Tucker and council members Jane D. Robbins and Robert L. Adams voted for it. Councilman Floyd A. James was absent.
