Dataproducts said it earned $1.1 million, or 6 cents a share, in the second quarter that ended Sept. 24, compared to a loss of $6.7 million a year earlier. Sales rose 9% in the quarter to $88.2 million.

The Woodland Hills computer printer maker said its improved results were due in part to increased sales of laser printers. It added that it has nearly finished relocating a plant from New Hampshire to Woodland Hills, a move that is expected to help the company cut costs.

For the six months, Dataproducts earned $2 million, or 10 cents a share, compared to a loss of $6.4 million a year earlier. Sales increased 10% to $173.6 million.
