As we surmised some months ago, Michael Crawford will indeed re-enact his Tony-winning turn as the title character in the Los Angeles edition of “The Phantom of the Opera.” Producer Cameron Mackintosh confirmed Tuesday that Crawford would tread the Ahmanson Theatre boards as the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical. In addition, designers Maria Bjornson (sets/costumes) and Andrew Bridge (lighting) will re-create their Tony-winning contributions for the L.A. version, now set to open on May 31, 1989.
