W. Los Angeles : Hearing on Mulholland Set
A public hearing has been scheduled for next week by the Los Angeles Planning Commission to consider a proposed ordinance that would restrict future development along Mulholland Scenic Parkway.
The hearing to discuss the so-called Mulholland Scenic Parkway Specific Plan will begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at the Van Nuys Women’s Club, 14836 Sylvan St., officials said.
The proposal has stirred debate among thousands of homeowners living within a mile-wide corridor of the parkway, some of whom are convinced that proposed controls would violate their property rights, including their ability to remodel or re-landscape their mountain residences.
City planners in August revised the proposed ordinance in an attempt to assure residents of having a say in any plans to build overlooks along the popular roadway.
Planners also eliminated a controversial requirement that new buildings and homes, including those rebuilt after fires or other disasters, be painted in earth or rock tones.
Once the commission considers the plan, it will be presented to the City Council’s Planning and Environment Committee before being considered by the full council, probably sometime next year, city planner King Woods said.
